The weapons of the Revolutionary War the muskets and cannons. The muskets that were used during the war were flintlock musket. The musket had a bayonet attached to for close range battle. The secondary weapons that were used was either a pistol or swords. But the most common weapon that was used was a smoothbore flintlock musket. The flintlock muskets were .62 to .75 inch bore. While a bayonet was rectangular or squared, witch was used to defend against cavalry.
The armies used paper cartridges to speed the loading process. A ball and proper amount of powder was added in and tied to a string when to fire. It takes a time for a soldier to load their musket. The soldiers were expected to be able to shoot in 15 seconds non-stop for four minutes. Even though the musket had a fast reloading time, it had a very inaccurate shooting.
The cannon used during the Revolutionary war was a muzzle loading cannon. Each cannon was roughly six pounds, with wooden carriages. Also, they had three pound guns that would have iron legs that were ‘ grasshoppers” and there was 12 pound cannons that were attached to ships.
